How to survive getting fired

So the ax has fallen, you have cleaned out your office and you are on your way home. So many feelings, emotions and thoughts are running through your head. What do you do?? Who do you call?? What is next??

When I lost my job I was totally blindsided. I was told to clean out my office and  leave as soon as possible. By the time I got back to my office my phone that I paid paid part of the expense of was turned off and my email with all of my contacts was shut down. So my personal contacts were gone! I didn't have access to my cell phone bill so had no way of getting my family telephone numbers. The first thing I did was go visit my sister-in-law at her job. She had just started a new job after having the same thing happen to her about 7 months prior to my job loss. She was the first of many who helped me sort my feelings out.

On my way home I stopped at the cell phone office and got a new phone that didn't have texting or email. I was tired of being at the beck and call of my boss and others. That wasn't going to happen ever again. I was not going to be owned by an employer. So then came the time to make the tough phone call.....to my husband. At first the news was meant with disbelief then the realization that I wasn't kidding. The initial support from him was unbelievable.

I got home and just tried to absorb what had just happened. I called my children and a couple of my friends to tell them before they heard the news on the street. I didn't sleep much that first night.....or the second night.....finally exhaustion took over and claimed me. I found blessed sleep on the third night of my release from captivity. More on that feeling later.
